"Animated Digital Art to be Projected on Cooper Union’s Foundation Building and 41 Cooper Square" Exhibition

Cooper Union (41 Cooper Square)

This event has ended.

A series of digital animations by artist Gearoid Dolan a.k.a. screaMachine, of the Computer Center at The Cooper Union, will be projected on the façade of Cooper Union’s historic Foundation Building and 41 Cooper Square, the college’s innovative academic facility, on Friday and Saturday nights (July 16th and 17th, from 9 PM to midnight). The piece, “Target Assault,” is a multimedia video performance series and winner of NYSCA’s Film, Media and New Technologies award. In the form of animated light, the projected image will depict a male figure attempting to climb a structure. Using a combination of varying sequences throughout the night, the animated figure will rove the surface of the buildings, climbing up, down and across. The image will be projected from a custom-built interactive projection device named the Video Remix Artillery Gun (VRAG), engineered by Dolan in Cooper Union’s sculpture workshop. Dolan’s piece will explore the interaction between the most basic human form and the structure, while also discussing the concepts of threat and assault.

On Friday night, the animations will be projected on the east side of Cooper Union’s Foundation Building (3rd Ave. b/w St. Mark's Place and 7th St.). Saturday night’s performance will be visible on the west side of 41 Cooper Square (3rd Ave b/w 6th and 7th Sts.). For additional information visit www.screamachine.com
