"The Wanderer: The Foreign Landscapes of Enrique Martínez Celaya" Exhibition
Museum of Biblical Art
This event has ended.
The exhibition analyzes the structural relationship of the figure and the landscape through Martínez Celaya’s work as indirect, yet original re-iterations of the Biblical narratives, themes, and imagery that have served to constitute the “mythological universe” for the Western literary imagination. The Stranger suggests that Martínez Celaya’s work is not merely influenced by writers like Frost, Tolstoy, Melville, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, among others, but also participates with them as collaborators in testing, undermining, and using Biblical narratives, themes, and imagery to reflect on human experience, in and through which the aesthetic and ethical intersect.
