Danielle Frankenthal and Mark Williams Exhibition
J. Cacciola Gallery
This event has ended.
Though they share a common commitment to a non-objective visual language, Danielle Frankenthal and Mark Williams diverge in their approach to their material and in the resultant work. Danielle Frankenthal’s multi-layered works combine a pure painterly sense of the material and surface of the work with an organic sensibility in which the works interact with the environment they inhabit. Art historian and critic, Donald Kuspit described Frankenthal’s work as, “Moving from opaqueness to transparency, Frankenthal transforms a finite surface into an infinite horizon.”
Mark William’s work is a contemporary interpretation of the language of geometric abstraction. By using tape to create fine lines that subdivide spatial borders and turning edges into a flurry of fine-grained textures, Williams creates subtle details that alter our perception of the work. “His colors and tones are exquisitely calibrated.” critic and curator Robert Storr has said.
