This event has ended.

Many artists have been drawn to the subject of dogs over the centuries, but rarely have they devoted their careers to the dog world. Morgan Dennis was one of those, and he had a steady successful career, from 1915 as an artist with a Boston newspaper, to his death in 1960, having produced a shelf of popular books full of his drawings and writings.

One book Morgan wrote and illustrated, Pure Breds, is a guide to the history and characteristics of pedigreed dogs recognized by the AKC. In its profile on the Scottish Terrier, Morgan couldn’t help but include an autobiographical aside: “This is the dog that started me in my profession. I made a little etching of a pair of scottie pups. They were very much at attention, so I titled the picture “When Do We Eat?”. An oil company [Texaco] used the etching for advertising purposes for three years, and that pair of Scottie pups was reproduced some 3 million times! I came to be known as the “Scottie Man”.
