This event has ended.

In New York City, where there is great difficulty reaching a consensus regarding the best of anything, there is general agreement that Fred Marcus Studio, founded by Fred Marcus in the 1940s and now run by his son and grandson, Andy and Brian, is the Bentley of wedding and party photography. The three-generations of the Marcus family total more than 65-years of a business that has recorded many of the city's most notable weddings and social events as well as iconic portraits of its luminaries. Some of these celebrity highlights: Billy Baldwin, Governor Cuomo and family, Art Garfunkel, Harry and Leona Helmsley, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, Eddie Murphy, Donald and Marla Trump (Andy Marcus' photo of this event was the cover of People) and on and on and on.... The 1996 book, A Plaza Wedding, is filled with photographs of famous weddings recorded by Fred Marcus Studio. Andy's reputation as the photographer to hire forthe finest in wedding photography has been reflected in such articles as Bernice Kanner's, "The Picture of Wealth" in New York; Donald Myers' "Picture Perfect" in Newsday; and Diane Ketcham's "Making a Day of Fantasy for the Bride and Groom" in The New York Times. His individual reputation as the most famous of New York's society and wedding photographers is echoed by Diane Ketcham's declaration that "Some brides want his services so badly they plan the wedding day around his availability." Andy just received the 2010 Leadership Award from the International Photographic Council at a luncheon at the United Nations.

Fred Marcus was the sole member of his family to survive the Holocaust. After having fled from Europe, he arrived in Cuba with only his Leica with which he photographed other refugees on the beach in Havana and sold them these photographs to make money to live. He came to America in 1941 and soon opened Fred Marcus Studio in New York City and, with his wife, Gerda, was involved in its operation until shortly before
his death in 2001. Today, as its President, Andy runs, along with his wife Judi and Brian, what is now one of the most famous photographic studios in the country, photographing over 200 events a year with a staff of five full-time photographers and four retouchers.

Andy's son Brian, the third generation, is an integral part of the business. Andy says, "Brian has brought a new excitement and look to our work. His photographic talent is matched only by his creativity." Besides shooting over 60 events every year Brian is a sought-after speaker for the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI). Brian was the featured platform speaker at Imaging USA 2009 and at WPPI 2010. His work has taken him all over the world, most recently to Malawi, Africa; these photographs were later exhibited at the Chelsea Art Museum.
