This event has ended.

The Egyptian-German artist Susan Hefuna's diverse practice uses drawing, photography, video, sculpture and installation to explore the cultural codes that govern our perceptions. Her abstract drawings evoke cityscapes, geometric designs, molecular structures and constellations. Hand-rendered in ink and pencil on multiple sheets of tracing paper, each layer simultaneously builds upon and conceals the patterns and lines drawn on the sheet below. As Hans Ulrich Obrist noted in an interview with the artist, "they are like architectural blueprints that oscillate between the two- and three-dimensional," and provide the foundation for the rest of Hefuna's body of work, wherein "everything is drawing."

Raised between Egypt and Germany, Hefuna has exhibited widely at galleries and institutions including: The National Gallery, Cape Town, South Africa; the New Museum, New York, USA; the Bluecoat Art Center, Liverpool, UK; the Seville Biennale, Seville, Spain; the Kunstmuseum, Thun, Switzerland; the Louvre, Paris, France; the Sharjah Biennalel, Sharjah, UAE; Gropius Bau, Berlin, Germany; The Third Line, Dubai, UAE; Townhouse Gallery, Cairo, Egypt ; and the Cairo Biennale in Egypt, where she received the International Award in 1998.
