This event has ended.

witzenhausen gallery new york presents “arcadia redesigned” by the belgian artist herman van den boom. arcadia redesigned is a photo series of imaginative landscape that shows intimate views and personal transformations of gardens and yards by home owners themselves.

herman van den boom recently got shortlisted for the sony world photography awards 2010, one of the largest photographic events existing today, in the category landscape. the winner will be announced by the end of april in cannes, france.
his work is also nominated for thessaloniki photo biennial 2010, greece, the 21st photography international meeting organized by the thessaloniki museum of photography, founded in 1998 by the greek state exclusively dedicated to photography.

herman van den boom was born in 1950, in essen, belgium, out of dutch-belgian parents, but much later raised in holland. he works as an artist/photographer since 1971. as soon as possible he started to travel worldwide. crossing borders is part of his culture and artistic approach. "what is seen as an important issue, fact or believe in one culture is seen as an hostile artifact in another".
“herman's humor and his ability to notice details that he then plays against the broader backgrounds of society and culture turn his work into esthetical, intriguing studies in human landscape that should be approached as metaphors questioning the way we are and live as human beings.”
