This event has ended.

Executed over the last two years, these new works introduce the artist’s recently developed interest in silk as support. Pollack paints directly onto the fabric with highly saturated colored inks. The silk quickly absorbs the pigment, and each form that develops stretches and unfurls into the neighboring marks, revealing the artist’s chosen subjects: autobiographical moments, color-coordinated daily schedules, and floral motifs.

In the Sleep Chart paintings, Pollack, a new mother, re-creates the journal-like schedule she, her husband, and her daughter’s Godmother and caregiver keep of their baby’s routine, which in turn disclose the artist’s transformed life as a parent. In the multi-panel installation entitled Room, Pollack has sewn together six dyed silk panels, which surround a powder-coated steel skeleton, producing a tent-like space where the viewer is invited to sit in a rocking chair. Room, a variation on her daughter Easter Lily’s bedroom, is a detailed description and meditation on the private space where the artist spent so many evening hours with her baby girl. Here Pollack shifts her focus from figural portraiture seen in earlier works on canvas and in ceramic to incorporate more abstract representations that continue to document personal moments of the artist’s life.
