PaulaBarr chelsea will present Line Dreaming, a solo show featuring the work of Paul Fernandez-Carol.

Line Dreaming presents exquisite drawings with a surrealistic tone that will enchant the viewer. The finesse of the work reminds us that in the shadow of each great painting, a great drawing is hiding. Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres said, "Drawing is the honesty of art. To draw does not mean simply to reproduce contours: drawing does not consist merely of line. Drawing is also expression, the inner form, the plane and modeling." PaulaBarr chelsea is proud to present the work of an artist who gives a sound meaning to Ingres' words.

Paul Fernandez-Carol believes that the use of different mediums to achieve an artistic goal is often necessary in order to make discoveries and push one's own abilities. Going from a complex set of guidelines to a more simplified structure often requires that the artist use a simpler set of tools. In order to achieve this simplification, the mediums he has chosen have been the pencil and the pen. Their familiarity and their utility provide a level of comfort and ease in creating new imagery, allowing him to "dream in line". The surrealist nature of the images is achieved through the use of drawing without any real destination, the surprise of making marks that spur new ideas and thoughts within the mind of the artist.

Paul's work has been widely exhibited nation-wide, notably at the Mid-Atlantic Surf Art Exposition, Brooklyn (2002), "The Figure Now", Juried Show, Westport Arts Center, Westport (2003), Day One Artspace, Bridgeport (2005), Members Show, Westport Arts Center, Westport (2004-2006), Spring Art Juried Show, St. Phillips Art Guild, Norwalk (2009), and Winter Group Show, Chi Dance & Arts Center, Westport (2009).
