This event has ended.

Sandra Hindman of Les Enluminures gallery in Paris has always been fascinated with the evolution of pictorial art at the Dawn of the Renaissance…and now she has put together a spectacular show of masterworks that spark a new appreciation for these times.

She says, "'Modern'" art in France in the year 1500 attracted important patrons and allowed artists to express their talents in new and exciting ways. Our new show, FRANCE 1500: The Pictorial Arts at the Dawn of the Renaissance includes the only illuminated Book of Hours for King Francis I, patron of Leonardo de Vinci and founder of the Louvre Collection, among 53 works that reveal the artistically complex and productive period when the arts and their patrons were changing into what we might consider "Modern" times at the end of the Middle Ages and beginning of the Renaissance. In the decades straddling the start of the 16h century some of the most important Manuscripts, Books of Hours, Single leaves and cuttings, Coffrets with early xylographs and Stained glass were created. There is also a historical chronicle, the Gestes des Dammartin, bound with one of only two velvet armorial bindings to have survived. Plus a stained glass of a King from Rouen Cathedral made by Guillaume Barbe will similarly be featured."

This very special France 1500 exhibition will be in New York in January at C.G. Boerner gallery and then in April it is going to Chicago, and will be shown at Joel Oppenheimer gallery.

Dr Sandra Hindman is well known to both private collectors and museum officials as she is one of the top dealers in the world specializing in museum quality Medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts and art. She divides her time between her Paris gallery and her offices in Chicago and has been featured at major art fairs in New York, San Francisco and Maastricht.

Also-Les Enluminures will be launching its 20th anniversary year in 2011 with appearances at major fairs including The Winter Show and Master Drawings Week events in NY in January, and Maastricht in March.

Sandra Hindman is very excited about the new "Turn the Pages" feature she has built into the "Virtual Tour" of the FRANCE 1500 exhibition in her Paris gallery. While it is used by the British Library and others in France, she says this is the first time a commercial gallery in her field has incorporated this feature…which is particularly useful when viewing Illuminated Manuscripts.
