This event has ended.

Trygve Lie Gallery presents a collaborative project by Norwegian artists Thale Fastvold and Tanja Thorjussen including “Kanda Empat” photography/video/text by Fastvold and “Metamorphoses” collage/drawing/installation by Thorjussen. Liminality is a term originated in anthropology to describe in-between phases and rituals related to different life stages such as birth, coming of age and death. The term is often descriptive of a transformative act or state of mind. This exhibition is a trans-disciplinary study of liminality, where information is gathered through research in science, anthropology and mythology. “Liminoids” is a self made term for the liminal creatures and places that are manifested through polaroid photos by Fastvold and drawings by Thorjussen. The Liminoids are presented as pairs bringing focus to the space between one state of being and another. One work shows a Polaroid of the light of dusk and a drawing of the just transformed caterpillar. Both are on the threshold of newness, of becoming something else. Another image pair shows a tree trunk and a key. What might the tree become, what is behind the door locked by this key? Fastvold will also exhibit her research project "Kanda Empat" with photography/video/text about rituals in connection to the liminal state of pregnancy and child birth. Thorjussen has explored the liminal in botany, zoology and mythology through the drawing/installation "Metamorphoses." Together Thale Fastvold and Tanja Thorjussen make up the art and curator group LOCUS. LOCUS was established in 2006 and has curated several exhibitions, showings of video art and other art happenings. They have exhibited in New York, Oslo, Trondheim, Reykjavik and Zurich. Recently LOCUS released the book “Kurator?” that explores the role of the curator in the Norwegian art market.
