The renowned Polish film director, Andrzej Wajda, took one look at the dolls and expressed a deep appreciation for them. “The dolls can be perceived as three dimensional ukiyo-e paintings. I would definitely like to photograph the dolls.” This exhibition showcases the doll collection of Hatsuko Ohno. Made of Paulownia wood and painted with rough, ink and a white pigment made of powered clam and oyster shells, the are dressed in clothes made of fabric. Most of the dolls are female and represent snapshopts of everyday life or figures from Kabuki theatre. About 30 dolls will be on display.
