"UnBound" Exhibition
Coleman Burke Gallery
This event has ended.
Coleman Burke Gallery presents UNBOUND, a group exhibition featuring 21 emerging artists who are recent graduates or Masters of Fine Arts candidates from Pennsylvania State University’s School of Visual Arts.
UnBound is an exhibition of works that explore themes of release and separation in a wide variety of mediums. The works display a longing for something, whether a person, place, memory or emotion. Viewers will have the opportunity to participate in connecting these disparate works with one another, in a sense binding the UnBound.
Curator, Nicholas Alexander says, “UnBound examines the contemporary nature of destruction and re-creation. This work reveals the emerging design of a new power, a loving hatred, a re-territorializing or restructuring of a place that has experienced deterioration. As the artists ‘destroy’ to release their subject matter from an existing state, they pull apart aspects of popular culture, and in doing so re-contextualize the identity of these images, making them their own, “unbinding’ an image or form to create a new ‘binding’ ownership.”
