A scriptorium was a place for the artful creation of books that were embellished with gold and Lapis and Cinnabar. From those times to the present artists books have been an essential part of the creative endeavor, and along the way, the book has been seen as a forum for highly personal expression and experimentation. From the pressrooms of William Blake to the winter studios of the Russian avant-garde, from the Dada exhibition to the surrealist parlor, and now from the conceptualist's argument, the act of making a book continues to express form with function. 10 Featured Artist Awards will be chosen from this exhibition by Maddy Rosenberg, Founder and Director of Central Booking, a nexus for all things related to the art of the book in Brooklyn.
