This event has ended.

Voices of Senegal features photographs taken during Abby Ross’ travels in West Africa; the images capture the people, landscape, and mood of the region. Says Ross: “I’ve often been attracted to this essential energy that shines through where the spiritual far outweighs the material. I am interested in the poetic character of things; in the small, seemingly unimportant things. There is hidden beauty in the ordinary and great beauty in the overlooked. Little things are big, less is more. Imperfection is beautiful. Paradoxes such as these fascinate me.
The exhibition runs in conjunction with 92YTribeca’s second monthly residency with reggae-soul band Meta and the Cornerstones, who take over the mainstage at 9 pm on Saturday, September 11 (tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door). The show includes a dance performance by (D) Ancestry, a company that combines West African dance culture with contemporary styles. This performance, featuring the work of (D) Ancestry’s choreographer Sara Galan, presents Destination: Imagination, a work for five dancers and two Sabar drummers from Senegal. Starting off the night is Teranga, NYC’s premier Senegalese M’Balax band. The event is co-presented by 54 Soundz.
