This event has ended.

The work of Art in General’s artist in residence, Božena Končić Badurina (Croatia, b. 1967) involves performance, intervention and constructed participatory situations that interrogate the power structures of human encounters. Končić Badurina explores perception and bodily communication in staged situations that focus on specific behaviors – breathing, staring, meditation and confrontation. Inverting the traditional relationship between spectator and subject, Koncic Badurina creates antagonistic or unfamiliar situations in which the visitor becomes the key point of focus for the artwork. Končić Badurina uses pedestrian-like performers who interact with visitors to the space in order to question the role of the viewer: Where does authority lie between the spectator and the subject, and how might this translate into everyday social interactions? For her residency at Art in General, Končić Badurina has choreographed a series of participatory performances for our Storefront Project Space. Documentation of these performances will be presented as part of her exhibition.
