The result of gathering such a distinct set of artists for a group show can be puzzling. A puzzle tangled in the multiplicity of ideas and mediums, which share the same platform. The end of the thread lies in the contemporary context of art making in which these artists work.
Between the Lines invites the viewer to unravel the puzzle, to establish connections between the 14 artists. The invitation is to read the works so that their apparent self-containment is expanded and discovered as each work relates to others in the show. By filling the interpretive gap to which Between the Lines refers, viewers themselves connect the political, spiritual, formal, personal and metaphysical lines manifested in the show.
Thus the lines of connections between artists are not established in advance as definitive or rigid. By creatively interpreting the elusive space we call Between the Lines, the viewer draws new lines of connections, momentarily inhabiting the role of the curator to create meaning.
