Destination Art Space announces "The Blends", by New York based artists, Destroy & Rebuild and Kyung Lee.
Destroy & Rebuild is a four-man artist collective whose art is a fusion of various media such as graffiti, photography, paints, silk-screen, collage, and more. Each member started doing graffiti on the streets and subways in New York City, illegally. After years creating work in and around the city, they decided to form Destroy & Rebuild on the premise that members used to destroy the city with their graffiti and now are rebuilding it through urban/industrial art.
Kyung Lee shares, "Working on painting is the freedom to be myself." Her work represents a very personal collection and illusion of memories which we often hide away deep inside. She thinks those memories are fragile and not so beautiful, and sometimes they damage our souls. However, they still play an important role of building up our individuality. In Kyung's work, these memories can be free and positive with her own vocabulary of using bright colors and unique images.
Artwork of both Destroy & Rebuild and Kyung Lee are full of stories. They freely dash their experience and memories on canvases with their creativity. In addition, like everybody has his/her own minds, each story from their work is uniquely distinctive. "The Blends", featuring works by the boy collective and a girl, explores an interaction of these stories, the uses of varied media, fashion and art, and of course, the artists and us.
