"The Sixth Annual Prelude Festival" Theatre and Perfomance Festival
CUNY Graduate Center
This event has ended.
The PRELUDE festival features dozens of performances, conversations, and symposia will take place at The Martin E. Segal Theatre at The Graduate Center, CUNY. This free event gives audiences an advance look at the performances of the 2009/10 season and beyond, including legendary performance artist Marina Abramović, plus The Living Theatre, Radiohole, Jay Scheib, NYC Players, David Michalek, Adrienne Truscott, Erin Courtney, and many more. Curated according to Digital, Poetic, Political, Bricolage, and Hybrid "tracks" that address the form and/or content of the previewed works - PRELUDE 09 places these dynamic artists in conversation with each other at the close of each day. This is a unique opportunity to hear the artists informally discuss how they create their work. PRELUDE 09 will examine the evolving relationship between Art and Culture. Each day of the festival will feature symposia with NYC’s leading performance practitioners in candid conversation exploring NYC’s complex cultural ecology. Given the greening of performance spaces, micro- and alternative financing, and renewed political engagement, how is performance affected by the culture at large?
