This event has ended.

Diane Carr's energetic and colorful paintings are situated somewhere between representation and abstraction. She investigates chaos and beauty within natural and re-imagined spaces that reference landscapes such as dense forests, icy seascapes, and isolated woodlands along with the atmospheric conditions of theses sites.

Utilizing bold expressive brushstrokes and alternating thin layers of washes, she creates ambiguous spaces within the environments that dissolve into abstraction. Through heightened color and shifts in scale, Carr emphasizes the gestural and emotive quality of the paint. Her work challenges the boundary between fantasy and the real realm as areas of the canvas dissolve into colorful environments filled with various tones of vibrant peach and dark purple to convey the spectral quality of the forest. The resulting images are charged with palpable intensity and emotional energy.

Diane Carr received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and a BA from American University in Washington, DC.
