This event has ended.

LMAKprojects announces ESC, Nayda Collazo-Llorens’ second solo exhibition with the gallery. In this exhibit Collazo-Llorens examines post-alphabetic forms of communication, hyperconnectivity and noise, giving form to a narrative dealing with geographic, mental and imaginary navigations. Collazo-Llorens gives visual expression to the manner in which the mind processes information; ESC features works on canvas, video and prints.

ESCaperucita & Little Flying Hood anchors the exhibition and is a text-based work consisting of twenty-six prints depicting the journey of these two characters as they encounter problems in midair, somewhere in the Caribbean near the Bermuda Triangle. Text becomes noise, signals, dialogue, factual data and thoughts. The multi-referential and bilingual narrative depicts a mindscape where language, displacement and simultaneity play a central role. An artist book has also been produced as part of this project and bears the same title.

Amphibian Mode is a video work that follows ESCaperucita & Little Flying Hood’s journey as they plunge into the ocean. Both works are currently being exhibited at the 10th Havana Biennial in Havana, Cuba.

In Test 31 the artist continues to explore concepts of noise, mental processing and mapping through blots, lines and marks on canvas, becoming a complex interconnected system. Seen as visual noise, an imaginary landscape or a mental map, this work offers a detailed examination into Collazo-Llorens’ ongoing fascination with mark-making and visual perception. Her work invites the viewer to reflect on the complexities of the mind and the fragmented manner in which we perceive what is inside and around us.
