Howard Scott Gallery presents the opening of the Berlin based artist, Rolf Behm's second sole exhibition. Born in Karlsruhe in 1952, he has been exhibiting publicly in his native country since 1980 and Brazil since 1998.

The artist studied with the renowned German artist, Markus Lupert from 1973 to 1977, spent a year in London on a DAAD grant, and worked in Florence for year a (1984) as artist in residence to the Villa Romana. Behm was invited to take part in a workshop in Maceio, Brazil for German and Brazilian artists in 1993. That experience awakened him to the remarkable beauties of that country, captivated by the tropical atmosphere and light and the richness of the coloration in the landscape he stayed on for several months longer, met and married his wife also a painter. They now spend three months a year at Rio de Janerio.

Citing the main characteristics of his work as being color, light and space, he employs a combination of acrylic paint and oil – in thin and transparent layers, one above the other in "illuminating abstract forms and giving depth to the surface", carefully treading the fault line between landscape and abstraction. The twelve new paintings in the exhibition created by various colored squares next to each other can be read as boxes in a landscape full of ambiguity and surprise and the variety and richness of paint.
