"Emergence" Exhibition
Tenri Cultural Institute
This event has ended.
Many of the artists in this exhibition address what it means, what it feels like, to live in The Gulf. From Oman, Al Moutasim Al Maskery creates work that deals with a very important historic aspect of life in the Gulf, which is the pearl-diving industry/history/culture. This is a part of his extended family's history and culture. Pearl diving, as it was practiced a few generations ago, was an extremely dangerous way to make a living, and fatalities were common. His skeletal imagery and people in traditional clothing speak to this heritage.
