Ms. Dubnau will discuss her paintings and her working method as well as contemporary portraiture. Participants re invited to bring in portraits in any medium to share in an open discussion about portraiture.

"Jenny Dubnau's portraits are often seen straight on and typically from the shoulders up, based on photographs that she took in unforgiving light against a neutral studio background." From these bland photographic images the artist creates paintings that arrest the viewer's attention. Her skillful painting technique records every nuance of skin tone, blemish, skin fold and underlying blood vessel as well as gesture and expression. This detailed examination and presentation of the sitter attracts, and can disturb the viewer. Portraiture is one of the basic subjects of art; artists have created portraits throughout time and in every medium. It is remarkable that Ms. Dubnau has created her own manner of portraiture that broadens our understanding of portraiture.
