Lyons Wier Gallery announces "Pretty Party," Ryan Bradley's first New York solo exhibition.
Exploring the true nature of beauty through the deconstruction of the figure, Bradley's large-scale tightly rendered pastel paintings of the female figure further delve into the culture of vanity, centering concerns a round aesthetic perfection and the pursuit of the indefatigable self.
Bradley's imagery is created through a complex play of positive and negative space with each element maintaining its own integrity. Puzzling together compositions by utilizing Victorian floral motifs and Rococo ornamentation, Bradley visually oscillates the viewer between an emotionally intuitive and recollective resource that is simultaneously familiar yet abstract.
This coupling creates a unique experience through the alteration, subtraction and union of preconceived formats, suggesting the figure's representation in accordance with the outlines provided.
