This event has ended.

On view at the Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery is the solo exhibition of Iranian artist Raza Derakshani.
Featured in the exhibition will be several works from the artist's Pomegranates and Migration series. Powerfully rendered in bold, vibrant colors and generous, textured paint, the stunning luminosity of these works in a true testament to the artist's continued commitment to abstract concepts of beauty and the evocation of musical qualities. Profoundly influenced by his heritage, Raza has continually borrowed from Persian subjects, themes and symbolism.

Raza Derakshani was born in Sangsar, a small village in the north east of Iran. Being brought up in a nomad family on the mountains had an enormous impact on his admiration for natural beauty and wonders of creation. He studied at the Tehran art school, and had his first solo exhibition at age nineteen at the prominent GhandrizArtGallery, in Tehran. He later traveled to the United States and studied at the Pasadena Art Center in California. On his return he taught Art and Graphic Design at Tehran University and the School of Decorative Arts. After his forced migration he lived in both New York City and Italy for a number of years. He returned to his homeland of Iran in 2002, and has since experienced and overwhelmingly rich period of artistic production.
