Winston Wächter Fine Art announces an exhibition of new work by Erin Parish. By building up layer upon layer of paint and resin in her large abstract paintings, Parish creates literal and illusionistic depths that are both visually complex and emotionally captivating.

In this new body of work, circles remain the most vital components in Parish’s increasingly complex compositions. Upon this geometric foundation, she beautifully balances passages that are light and dark, shiny and matte, transparent and opaque. Perhaps most interesting of all is the tension between the geometric aspects of her compositions and those that are purely painterly. Looking at her paintings, one can imagine two hands at work. Parish is there in the controlled, carefully plotted patterns and refined circles. But there is a wilder, uncontrolled element at play as well—the paint itself has a voice, one that is heard in the drips and splashes that animate the surfaces and deeper recesses of these paintings.

Parish says that her imagery is taken from memories of nature. True to the nature of both memory and the natural world, these images are impossible to pin down. They shift and change with the movement of the viewer, and with changing light conditions throughout the day.
