This event has ended.

The exhibition will feature new video work that continues the artist’s focus on the presence of color within a variety of cultural rituals and practices. For this new work Dean incorporates a visual technology that captures an image invisible to the human eye (the gradients of temperature differences) and translates them through a color palette. Initially conceived for the medical, military and industrial fields, Dean uses this process to focus on the movement of crowds and the ritualistic nature of gestures.

Stephen Dean lives and works in New York. He is currently in residence at the Villa de Medici in Rome, Italy and will have a solo exhibition at Ecole Superieur d’Art et Media, Caen, France as well as Centro Cultural Koldo Mitxelena, San Sebastian, Spain in 2010. His work has been exhibited in international venues including: SFMoMA, San Francisco, CA; Tokyo Wonder Site, Tokyo, Japan; Henry Art Gallery, Seattle WA; Site Santa Fe 2006, Santa Fe, NM; Miami Art Museum, Miami, FL; 51st Venice Biennial, 2005, Venice, Italy; Fondazione Pitti, Stazione Leopole, Florence, Italy; 2002 Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art, NY and many others. His work is part of numerous public and private collections including: Guggenheim Museum, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; La Caixa, Barcelona, Spain; Jumex Foundation, Mexico City, Mexico; Altadis, Paris, France; Israel Museum, Tel Aviv, Israel; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. and many others.
