Kathryn Markel Fine Arts presents an exhibition of recent work by sculptor Arden Scott. As an artist living in Greenport, Long Island, Scott has been producing sculpture since the early 70's.
In this, her second exhibition with the gallery, the sculptures again reflect her obsession with sailing and life on the water. They are each a distillation of the term "vessel" and at the same time each tells a different, and particular story. It is Scott's deep understanding of her simple materials - steel slabs and bars - that enable her to wrestle these minimal elements into sculptures alive with personality. With an elegant economy of means, she creates objects that are the same time archetypal and specifically unique.
