This event has ended.

A part of FIAF’s Crossing the Line festival, in "Fabrication of Blindness," Mandle calls into question America’s use of terror in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, embroidering excerpts of detainee letters, poems, and stories on the black military sandbags recognized universally for their use as prisoner hoods.

The artist will also engage in a talk about art as an agent of political change on Monday, September 21, 2009, with Marc Falkoff, attorney for Guantanamo prisoners and editor of the acclaimed Poems from Guantanamo compilation of detainee poetry.

As part of the exhibit, on Saturday and Sunday, September 26-27, 2009, Mandle will conduct participatory Embroidery Circles that are conceived as “craft-based interventions” and are open to the public.
