"Long Island City, The Northern Edge: Its Future" Panel Discussion

The Noguchi Museum

This event has ended.

The Museum commences its 2009 series of Second Sundays programs with a panel discussion which will focus on the changing landscape of northern Long Island City.

The panel will be moderated by Donald Elliott, Noguchi Museum Trustee and former New York City Planning Commissioner. Participants include Alyson Baker, Executive Director of Socrates Sculpture Park and President of the Long Island City Cultural Alliance, Richard Maltz, Principal in the real-estate firm Greiner-Maltz, who also sold Noguchi his first building in Long Island City in 1961, and John Young, Queens Planning Commissioner.

The conversation will examine the history of Long Island City's real estate, current zoning, plans and a forecast for the next 5 to 10 years, and the impact of new development on the arts in the area. A particular focus of the conversation will be the ways in which the development and arts aspects of northern Long Island City can benefit each other, as well as the local community.

Second Sundays are an ongoing series of public programs featuring a mix of dialogues on art, architecture and design, performances and readings developed to complement the Museum's permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Programs are held on the second Sunday of each month at 3 pm (unless otherwise noted) and are free with Museum admission.
