“Fall, in Love” is a group exhibition celebrating the autumn and three artists whose perceptions of nature manifest in very distinctive ways. The artists included are Tanya Bell, Marc Burckhardt and Linda Lee Nicholas.
Tanya Bell’s prints are best described as visual prayers. Kelly’s Petals represents Bell’s sense of the physical and the spiritual realm and refers to the death and resurrection of Christ. The underlying cross motif represents the suffering that leads to death. Petals float upward to suggest that upon death the universe reclaims the essence of life. Inspired by Christian illuminations, the prints are often finished with a metallic sheen.
Marc Burckhardt's paintings juxtapose historical Western European artistic genres, techniques and symbols with contemporary themes to explore the nature of cultural identity. His work calls into question our mythic relationship to nature, and our moral, social and political ideals. These carefully crafted works utilize the painting methods of the old masters and depict imagery that is often unsettling, referencing war and consumerism, for example.
Linda Lee Nicholas' animated ink paintings walk the line between the personal and the universal. They are influenced by her memories of the past intermingled with the present. The isolated ink forms float in white open space, and complexities in color and mood reveal themselves slowly. The work, created at I-Park, reflects Nicholas' personal obsession with daily life and the effects of our
environment regarding food, water and air.
