This event has ended.

Derek Eller Gallery presents new work by Peter Caine.

Peter Caine is widely known for creating provocative animatronic installations. He combines found objects with handmade kinetic sculptures, theatrical lighting and sound to create a surreal atmosphere that is both humorous and disconcerting.

This carnivalesque installation will include a life-size Styrofoam igloo coated with fake snow, guarded by a flag-wielding Yeti. Inside is an irreverent take on the creationism myth, where an electronically animated alien (The Overlord), diligently works on a robotic "Eve", who lies on a lighted surgical table. The scene is closely observed by two half-human, half-ape figures (representing previous failed versions of Adam and Eve) while the Overlord's trusty sidekick (in the form of a giant Teddy Bear), stands nearby.

Peter Caine currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. A self-taught artist, he began making collages while recovering from a crippling leg injury at the US Naval Hospital in Jacksonville Florida. His work has been included in the exhibitions Second Coming at Exit Art, and Greater New York at PS1. This will be his first solo show with the gallery.
