Von Lintel Gallery presents a solo exhibition of new paintings by Mark Sheinkman. The show, the artist’s eleventh one-person exhibition in New York and his seventh with Von Lintel Gallery.
Using graphite powder, oil paint and alkyd paint, Sheinkman proves that less can indeed be more. In this body of work, he conjures abstract images that explore space, volume, temporality and scale in ways that outstrip what one might expect possible with just these three ingredients. In an elegant distillation of signature motifs, Sheinkman has grafted the thicket-like density and smoky ethereality of previous bodies of work together into wonderfully convoluted and semi-solid organic forms. The images appear to grow and flutter before your eyes. Their refined and non-Euclidean structures demonstrate the sensitivity of this skilled artist while their lyricism offers a portal to the sublime.
