The artists explore spatial compositions using geometric constructs that alternately protrude and recede creating illusions of space that build surface tension and at times collapse into flatness. Zaun Lee uses multiple perspectives often utilized in traditional Asian landscape paintings to create epistemic landscapes out of Lego blocks. Suzanne Song’s paintings present a formal investigation about space and perception stemming from the notion of duality and issues of identity. Using perspective and shading as well as the materiality of the wooden panel and canvas support Song creates multifaceted spatial trompe l’oeils.
