‘Reinventing the Wheel’ will begin with the moving and rarely screened experimental film ‘FIETSEN; (Cyclists, 1965) by Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken as he observes cyclists (and other means of transport) in Amsterdam, moving over the bridges on the canals. A lively discussion about the road ahead will follow with transit experts Paul Steely White, Executive Director of Transportation Alternatives, www.transalt.org; Dani Simons, Director of Strategic Communication NYC Department of Transportation, www.nyc.gov and a representative from Times Up times-up.org at Atlantic Gallery who will tell us what’s happening on our city streets this summer.
