Ramis Barquet presents Exile, an exhibition of the work of three US based Cuban artists of the influential 80s Generation, curated by Nick Kilner.The 1980s were a critical moment in the history of Cuban contemporary art, as artists started to move away from the socialist realism of their predecessors and began instead to challenge the restrictions of their social reality. The decade, marked at the outset by the mass exodus of the Mariel Boatlift and at its end by the collapse of the Soviet Union, saw post-revolutionary Cuban art enter the world stage and fostered the careers of Cuban artists across the diaspora, whose influence continues to affect a new generation of ochentoso artists today.
