Sahra Motalebi frequently incorporates musical gesture and sensorial environments into her performances. For her 35 minute music performance Such is the Game of Authenticity, she will explore expressionism and emotional reactivity in the art of song and story-telling while fusing inspiration from ancient Greek theatre with a 1980s music aesthetic. Video projections, one created with Colin Whitaker, will also accompany the performance.
J. Patrick Walsh 3 presents a new piece titled Arab Drift, Tuned Endo. Referring to extreme automotive stunts conducted by Middle Eastern youth and popularized on YouTube, Walsh performs what he calls a “slow drift.” Collaborating with musician John DiCosmo, Walsh will park his 1984 Volkswagen Scirocco in P.S.1’s outdoor courtyard, raise it on jacks, and “tune” it with custom-made objects.
