Gary Snyder/Project Space presents an exhibition of recent paintings by Luke Gray. This will be Luke Gray’s fourth solo exhibition with Gary Snyder, and will feature a new group of paintings titled “Deep Skins.”
In “Deep Skins,” Gray investigates both the act and potential of spontaneous creation – the paintings evoke and express states of nature, mind, and paint while continuing a powerful dialogue with art history. Gray has written:
“My artwork is a portal into a subconscious life that I wouldn't have known existed were it not for the work it produced. Spontaneity acts as the spark that sets it free. The paintings are each completed in one unbroken session. When the finished painting is viewed, a decision is made as to whether the piece has the unhinged, non-definitive, and expansive quality I'm looking for. In these paintings I'm trying to freeze a world on the cusp
of being.”
