"Terence Koh" Art Performance and Lecture

The National Arts Club

This event has ended.

Critically-acclaimed contemporary artist Terence Koh will make his debut appearance at The National Arts Club by giving a lecture on the history of art as an original art performance entitled "Art History: 1642 - 2009"

In conjunction with New York’s Performance Art Biennial PERFORMA, this event is part of The National Arts Club’s Contemporary Art Department’s ongoing PERFORM series, which features an array of experimental art performances by today’s contemporary artists. The event is curated by Stacy Engman, the National Art Club’s Contemporary Art Chair and Chief Curator.

"We are thrilled to present Terence Koh as part of our ongoing PERFORM series and in conjunction with PERFORMA, says Contemporary Art Chair Stacy Engman. “Always an iconoclast, Koh’s distinct brand of theatricality makes this a highly anticipated occasion as he delivers Art History: 1642-2009, which will feature art historical art images from around the world in an evening salon style format.”

Terence Koh is one of the most celebrated contemporary artists working today. He arose in the spotlight in the mid 1990s under the non de plume asianpunkboy, gaining attention through his website and “art-porn” zines. His sprawling body of work, which includes paintings, photographs, sculptures, drawing and performances, has been exhibited internationally including the 2004 Whitney Biennial. Since “killing off” asianpunkboy in 2003, he has concentrated on producing large, room-sized installations and performances. His work is featured in the permanent collections of many museums including Armand Hammer Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tate Modern, Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum and The Museum of Modern Art amongst others.
