The smog of LA creates such beautiful sunsets even if they are lethal. Crimson dusk reflects from Rirkrit Tiravanija’s mirror polished ping pong table. A starched waiter sets a pink drink in a martini glass down on a Liam Gillick side table. It clashes with the grid of hot orange that comprises the table. Smoke wafts from Pentti Monkkonen’s Locomotive Barbecue. Smells of an assortment of skewered meats drift toward the guests. Perched on a quiet corner of the deck, a bikini-clad woman stares romantically over the Hollywood landscape. Created by Jim Drain, she is totally PC – painted ceramic – not your grandfather’s politically incorrect lawn jockey. An out of work actor dressed too self-consciously sits alone at Mary Heilmann’s cabana green table inlaid with broken ceramic.

The pool continues into the interior of the house. A large bamboo caged parrot and an abundance of greenery affect a magical environment. Two mushrooms seat/table by Rob Wynne grow from the edge of the forest. A platinum blond reveler swings on Aaron Young’s gold chained tire. Dinner is served. Even the inebriated wait staff is able to, in seconds, assemble Piero Golia’s honey combed punch out table as a make-shift banquet counter. The band sways to the sounds of Henri Mancini as the guests sit for dinner.

The festivities end as the sun comes up. Two of the guests leave in a three-wheeled powder blue Morgan.
