"Bite" Exhibition

American Painting

This event has ended.

Strawberries, transparently and intensely red as only the sun ripens them, help create a show that is good enough to eat. Bite is not a show of still life, Nature Morte as the French say, because the fruit gleams with life and compositions dance with vitality. It is a celebration of one of life’s most fundamental pleasures.

Barbara Nuss’ beautiful and juicy apples are dappled and shining. Michele Martin Taylor’s fruit cart bananas, yellow as incandescent light bulbs, teeter in a risky pile, and seem to illuminate the rainy city street. Andrei Kushnir’s tiny arrangements of various combinations including an apple, a tomato, a pomegranate and a tangerine are a tip of the hat to good health, while his frozen cake in Tupperware brings forth a myriad of sensations and emotions. Joachim Marx’s oranges are as serene and solid as planets, and his wine and bread, sacraments of color and symbolism, help create non-cliches ripped from a genre full of them.
