This event has ended.

Throughout her artistic career, Brunet’s exploration of abstraction has encompassed motifs of Japanese manga and highly stylized comic book graphics and has included references to female sexuality, volcanoes and explosions. Her new series of paintings demonstrates her ability to augment her well-known abstractions with figurative elements while remaining true to the universe of chaos that she has created in her previous paintings and sculptures. She has always alluded to nature throughout her work, and now, in her new paintings, animals such as zebras, leopards, bears, tigers, lions and butterflies materialize surrounded by explosions of colors, flowers, rolling waves and fire. The two-dimensionality of the paintings is starkly emphasized as the flowing, streaking backgrounds push the animals up against the picture plane. The effect is a somewhat mannered and sophisticated reminder of a paint-by-numbers exercise.
