The Gallery at (Le) Poisson Rouge announces the opening of its newest exhibition by NYC-based artist David Ellis. The evening will begin with an invite-only party celebrating the opening from 6pm-8pm in The Gallery, which will be followed by a main space live performance by groundbreaking musician, producer and DJ Prefuse 73, who is joined by shape-shifting electronic music composer and DJ Jon Hopkins, and Sao Paulo, Brazil-based DJ duo MIXHELL. The main space event is free and open to the public.

For the exhibition Recollect, artist David Ellis continues his practice of record collecting as a process for making sculpture. Ellis presents three new wall sculptures in his ongoing "Recollection" series. The works will be constructed with more than 1,000 record sleeves systematically arranged by color and theme. The result is a resin-encased block of recorded history that seemingly levitates. Additionally, a three-part installation of massive spiraling clouds, constructed entirely of records, will be installed across the walls of the gallery. A recent motion painting will also be on view.

Ellis' work continues to interpret music and sound. His paintings are often recorded in a form of digital time-lapse animation Ellis calls "motion painting. " Not unlike jazz, these works provide Ellis with an opportunity to combine ideas with collaborators or work solo within a form that promotes improvisation and spontaneity. For a recent commission the artist painted a truck from sun-up to sundown over five consecutive days. Ellis often stages events when exhibiting his motion paintings, inviting musicians, performers, and sound artists to interpret the work live. His motion painting "Paint on Trucks in a World in Need of Love" was recently exhibited at MoMA.
