This event has ended.

The Laundromat presents an exhibition of works by Japanese artist Takayuki Kubota.

Kubota’s work explores a sense of time and history, and the relationship between fact and its representation. His work examines the relationships between symbolism and its implication, as well as images and narratives. He has developed his ideas in a series entitled “Journal”, “Music”, “Site”, and “Literature”. Each work records sounds on magnetic tape and then mounts the tape horizontally on wood panel.

The “Journal” series consists of sounds captured in the artistʼs daily life. The “Music” series consists of musical recordings of French composer Claude Debussyʼs compositions. The “Site” series consists of site-specific sounds and noises captured at various times, such as: “Waterloo Station, May 4th 2005 12:43 – 12:59”. In the “Literature” series, the artist recorded himself reading through the text of English writer Oscar Wildeʼs novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.
