This event has ended.

"I am married to a literary artist, the poet Philip Fried. Our lifelong collaboration influenced my idea to curate this exhibition.

According to a Romantic view of artistic endeavor, the artist is a monad - a single, gifted individual pursuing a vision. This exhibition, however, proposes artists of another unit: the dyad, or twosome. The Brooklyn couples included in this show are your neighbors. You can see them doing everything that other couples do: shopping, taking care of children, going to the park, doing the wash. They are also artists, working together or, at least, alongside one another. The purpose of this show is to suggest how couples who are also artists interact with one another by helping, collaborating, criticizing and inspiring.

In the adjacent display cases, you will encounter pictures of these couples, as well as their statements about what it is like to live with another artist. Phrases like "harshest critic and strongest supporter" or "studios separated only by a wall" suggest some of the dynamics. Then, you can make your own way through the displays and special installations featuring these Brooklyn artists' work. Test what they say about being partners in life and art against the evidence of what you see. Your perceptions and insights will make the partnership complete, as the dyad becomes a triad!"
