Elizabeth Harris Gallery presents Dreaming Places, an exhibition of recent paintings by Lachlan Goudie.
"A series of paintings on copper, aluminium and gesso panels. Taking archive photographs as its point of departure this exhibition explores a world populated by pioneers and voyagers. As liners slip out of part and planes are prepared for take-off, their destinations remain unclear, existing only as places imagined; dreamt of, hoped for. The nighttime skyline of New York promises a possible journey's end: dreaming towers rising into the darkness. Whether perceived through nocturnal showers or the sepia tones inspired by 19th century photography, the city appears foreign, unreal; as indeed it has always been for me."
