Soho20’s National Affiliate artists, a group of art professors, cuators, and activists, come from many urban and university settings in the United States and Japan. This self-curated group of thirteen artists from California, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Indiana, the Southeast, and New England co-exhibit at Soho20 each June. As a group, they support each other’s artistic growth through a collegial dialogue. Their bodies of work address issues of identity, feminine sensibility and female development, and social, personal, and economic power. Their artistic means range from realist/surrealist emphasis on the body and nature to reparative interventions and holistic installations to mixed forms, video, and installation. Some engage in conscious cultural critique, others in intercultural collaboration, and some interrogate gender-influenced ways of making or interpreting art. A number of the artists engage in public and political art and community dialogue, both at home and abroad.
