This event has ended.

The two artists, Sati Zech and Werner Schmidt have a distinct sensibility and will be represented by a number of very recently completed works on paper.

Sati Zech, born in Karlsruhe, studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts between 1982 and 1987 with the sculptor Lothar Fisher, under whose aegis she did her master studies. Despite her propensity towards the sculptural, the surface as such soon became the actual terrain for her form finding.

In her art, Zech has developed something akin to a landscape structure, something regulated by statuary moments. At first sight, these linearly flowing, spotty, coagulated forms make a strong impression of abstract figures spread randomly over a surface. Objective relationships insinuate themselves, to then make the observer discern representational elements nested in archaic crevices, elements that suggest form finding. Her work is in numerous public and private collections in Europe and in the United States. Her first solo exhibition in New York in 2007 was s critical success.

Werner Schmidt was born in the Black Forest region of Germany, for the last ten years, he has maintained a studio in Berlin, in which he concentrates largely on making works on paper, while responding to the intellectual stimulation of this newly reenergized metropolis. This duality of working environments could be considered as having parallel in the organizing forces of his work. He can be in ecstasy before the beauties of German pastoral landscape, striving to create "color sounds" in the paints he himself makes to further extend his exploration of color. And he also enriches the conceptual basis if his process-oriented work through continuing investigations of such central concerns as the spatial relationship of the central "field' of painting to its exactingly articulated edges – and through his intensive study of the work of Joyce and other writers whose ideas have informed his work.
