This event has ended.

Soho Photo Gallery announces that its guest exhibitor in June will be Arlene Gottfried whose show is entitled "Bitter Sweet." This collection of Gottfried's work, which reflects the intricacies of the street photography genre today, blurs the lines of conceptual and documentary photography in her mix of personal and public musings. New York City and its people becomes the artist's pallet, which not only records a moment but also lets the viewer feel the city's daily, crazed rush of emotions and energy. Paul Moakley was curator of the Bitter Sweet exhibition at the Alice Austen House Museum in Staten Island, NY in 2008.

Gottfried's work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Fortune, Life and The Independent in London. She has also exhibited at the Leica Gallery in New York and at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

There will also be three solo shows in June by Soho Photo members.

Gary Duehr's third exhibition at Soho Photo is called Details-8-inch by 8-inch photographs of details of paintings in museums. Lifted from their original context, Duehr views these details as having a dialog with each other. These samples force attention on what may be overlooked. Rather than the intensity of an expression or the sweep of a historical scene, Details examines the turn of a collar or a patch of wall. In 2007, the International Association of Art Critics chose Duehr as a Best Emerging Artist in New England. His public artworks include a photo commission from the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority) for a permanent photo installation at North Station.

From Selma's Kitchen is Ruth Raskin's second solo show at Soho Photo. Raskin says "These are photographs of old kitchen tools, most of them belonging to my mother-in-law, Selma. Many were handed down from her mother, Sarah. I shot them simply, in a dark room with only one 60-watt bulb for illumination. I love their simplicity, their rust and scratches, and their power to bring back memories of time spent in our mother's kitchen."

Ron Meisel's latest solo exhibit is called Sightseeing in New York City-a series of seven panoramic color inkjet prints, 13 inches by 28 inches. Enjoy the tour.
